City Games tour 2018 has come to an end with Friday´s Croatian final on Vir. It was
organized by Općina Vir, Vir turizam and Adria Events agency and with this event the ninth
season of City Games is finished. Many spectators saw six best Croatian teams – from Ploče,
Krk, Komolac, Mali Lošinj, Šibenik and Vir.

Competitors played six amusing, but difficult games – flying water polo, sea basket, tourist
rescuing, barrel race, wine and paddle. The new scenography gave extra tension to the
competition and was challenge even for experienced teams. Komolac, Ploče and Krk were in
outstanding competition for gold which decided in the last game paddle between Ploče and
Krk.

At the end, with great support of spectators, the title of Croatian City Games winner went to
team Daj Mare from Krk. This is their second title in the last three years. The prize will come
this winter on Mariborsko Pohorje, where they will enjoy in skiing with winners of other
countries. Beside that they also won a ticket for an international final that will be held in
Luxembourg in 2020.

“We didn´t expect to win, but we believed in ourselves until the end. We are very delighted
that we managed to beat Ploče in their strongest game and with that took gold. We are happy
and proud to once again bring the title of Croatian champion to Krk,” said the captain of the
winning team Vladimir Babić.

The second place went to Plina istočna from Ploče which were not strong enough in the final
paddle to defend the champion title from the last year. “Last year the champions, this year the
second place. We were close, but today Krk was better and we congratulate them for taking
the gold. We go forward with our heads holding high,” said the leader of Ploče Tomislav
Batinović.

Even though the most of the time they held the first position, at the end Ombla from Komolac
took bronze medal. A little less lucky were teams Šibenik, Mali Lošinj and Vir, ending
competition as 4 th , 5 th and 6 th . No matter not achieving as good result as wanted, they all

played great fair play and put the great note to City Games spectacle which promote positive
values and friendships.

With this final another successful City Games season has come to an end. Knowing that the
next year will be the jubilee 10 th season, we are expecting even more and even stronger
competition for taking the title of City Games champion.

The City Games event in Vir, Sunday 26.08.2018 was CANCELLED because of bad weather.

Grad Duga Resa, Turstička zajednica Grada Duga Resa and Adria Events agency were the
organizers of the last Croatian challenger. On the river Mrežnica many spectators witnessed
great competition between five teams – from Duga Resa, Zagreb, Krk and Krško from
Slovenia which gave the competition international note. After two hours long competition the
gold medal won team Daj Mare from Krk.

Because of the specific terrain of the river the games were split into water and land part. On
the water there were four games – flaying water polo, wine, tourist rescuing and water basket,
while on the land we could see two different games – alka and tug of war. Unfortunately, after
the first game team Hitnjaci from Zagreb lost one of their women competitor because of
injury and couldn´t continue with competition. The best result in flying water polo made Krk,
winning 140 points in 2 minutes and a half and showed their will to pass to the final.

Krk made great results even in other three water games, making the best results in wine and
water basket and second best in tourist rescuing which helped them to play more calm the
land part of games. The only team which were close to them were young and fresh Telebajski
from Krško. Even though they were out of competition in Duga Resa, they showed great
potential for the future editions of City Games.

In alka the certain win made Telebajski – their girls gathered 21 points which meant they
didn´t make any mistake. All seven rounds they took alkas in the middle (3 points each) and
brought their team the win in the second game. In the last game maximum points once again
went to Daj Mare which only confirmed total win and ticket for the final in Vir.

The only event left in this year will be held on 26. August on Vir, where the best teams from
Croatia will compete in the final at 7.30 p.m.

After the challengers in Koper, Maribor and Ajdovščina it was finally time for the big
Slovenian final of City Games. Once again Kranj hosted it and the best six teams from
Slovenia competed – two teams from Maribor and then one from Piran, Ajdovščina, Velenje
and Kranj. After two hours long competition with many great battles, full of tightness and
adrenalin, the most points gathered Velenje and became the new Slovenian champion of City
Games.

Spectators that fulfilled the tribunes of the open Olympic pool in Kranj could watch the
competition with six different games – wine, tourist rescuing, barrel race, water basket, flying
water polo and paddle. Equality of the favorites, Štajerske vijolice from Maribor and Velenje,
already showed in the first game wine. After three and a half minutes of carrying and
squeezing the grapes, the measuring device showed exact amount of squeezed wine – 5,2
liters. The next game was flying water polo where we witnessed the absolute record of this
year´s City Games. Štajerske vijolice won incredible 455 points, playing the game almost
perfect (no other team reached more than 300 points), took the first position and holding it
until the last game. The domination of Štajerske vijolice continued in the third game where
girls from Maribor overpowered other competition in barrel race.

After half of the competition Velenje was 10 points behind Maribor and everybody believed
there is almost no chance Maribor will not take gold in the end. But Velenje then won in next
two games. Firstly, they rescued their tourist in 1:51 which was the fastest and secondly, they
were the best in water basket and the battle for the first place was once again open. The
difference between first two teams was just 2 points and it was clear that paddle will decide
Slovenian champion.

Mini tournament in the paddle brought to the final two leading teams Štajerske vijolice and
Velenje. As the whole competition, even this final paddling was extremely tie. The better start
made Maribor but broke only few centimeters before the end, when Velenje paddled stronger
and took the win and with only one point lead also the title of Slovenian champion.

It was the third year in a row City Games came to Ajdovščina with help of Občina
Ajdovščina, Zavod za šport Občine Ajdovščina and Adria events agency and fulfilled the
tribunes of swimming pool complex. In front of more than 1000 spectators the tightest battle
this year ended with a big win of the home team. With the final result 9:8 Ajdovščina, where
local athletes were gathered together, took gold medal and the ticket for the Slovenian final
which will be held on Friday in Kranj.

As the host city wanted, only two local teams competed in the event and it turned out as a
great idea. Beside Ajdovščina there were also Nova Gorica which also gathered strong team
with local athletes. They competed in eight different games (which is this year´s record) –
wine, flying water polo, barrel race, donkey race, tourist rescuing, fisherman´s crates, water
basket and paddle.

It was very tight competition until the very end. Teams changed the leading position twice
and were tie even three times. Better opening was made by away team – girls made 5,1 liters
of wine and got their team into the lead. The great support of the audience helped the home
team to make impressive 200 points in flying water polo and won 2 points. The girls came out
then, competing in barrel race where Nova Gorica were better. The next game, donkey race,
was once again very amusing for the spectators. The track was the longest this year and home
donkey was obedient enough to bring another 2 points to Ajdovščina and the teams were tie
again.

In the next three games Nova Gorica won two of them, so the result before the last game was
8:6 for the Nova Gorica. The last one was paddle where teams gave their hearts out. For the
great pleasure of spectators home team was stronger and won three points, gold medal and the
ticket for the Slovenian final.

Slovenian part of City Games tour will end this Friday in Kranj, where 6 best Slovenian teams
will compete for the title of Slovenian champion of 2018.

Mestna občina Maribor, the European city of sport of the year 2018, hosted the second
Slovenian City Games challenger. Beautiful weather and the great atmosphere attracted to
Mariborski otok five teams from Maribor and Kranj and also many spectators. The tickets for
the City Games final was won by two teams – the winner Štajerske vijolice (48 points) and
the second placed Palačinke (29 points), both from Maribor.

Štajerske vijolice got maximum points in four games – wine, flying water polo, tourist
rescuing and paddle. The reason for the great result is for sure the many years of experiences
they have and creating some great results in the past. Let´s remind that Štajerske vijolice are
current international winners of City Games. Nevertheless, the big fight was proceeding for
the second place between Palačinke from Maribor and Kranjski orli from Kranj. Palačinke
made better results in donkey race, tourist rescuing and water basket and well deserved won
second place. The bronze went to Kranj.

“We had much fun, like we always do. We are also honored to be the first to test the new
scenes and we are delighted that City Games events are improving through years. We are very
satisfy with our result and for the final in Kranj we expect to have even more fun,” said the
captain of Štajerske vijolice Luka Bombek who is also eager to play again against his
brother´s team Palačinke.

City Games tour is already in Ajdovščina, where the third and the last Slovenian challenger
will take place.
